The one trim, X5 M is a cousin to the X5 but with more muscle and modern touches. The aggressive-looking X5 M features dual-slat kidney-designed front grilles, handsome LED headlamps, and striking wing mirrors that give the X5 M a revolutionary appearance. Add the X5 Competition Package to get the M Sport dual-port exhaust system as well as gloss black exterior accents for a sophisticated look.

You’ll enjoy the massive amount of power that’s under the hood of the X5 M. The M 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine produces an unbelievable 600 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. When you want even more oomph and gusto, choose the Competition Package which features the same engine but ups the horsepower to 617.

The cooling system in the latter engine has four water pumps, six radiators, and a transmission cooler so you can take the X5 M on the racetrack and not overheat it. An eight-speed automatic transmission pairs with either engine and comes with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. All-wheel drive comes standard.

You’ll drive in luxury with well-appointed interior details. With the two rows of seats that fit five comfortably, you get Merino leather upholstery with heated front seats and armrests along with a heated steering wheel. Enjoy extra light from the panoramic sunroof, and keep your eyes on the road with the head-up display. Add the Executive Package and get heated rear seats, ventilated, massaging front seats, and heated and cooled cup holders.

With a maximum of 72.3 cubic feet of cargo space, you have plenty of room to carry luggage and supplies. Cubby holes and compartments located throughout the cabin let everyone store personal items such as cell phones and sunglasses.

BMW’s iDrive infotainment system features a 12.3-inch touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Other standard features include Bluetooth, a wireless charging pad, several USB ports, a Wi-Fi hot spot, and voice-controlled navigation. You can listen to your audio through the 16-speaker Harman Kardon speaker system, or for the ultimate in listening pleasure, upgrade to the available 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins stereo. Add the Professional Connected Package that gives you BMW’s ConnectedDrive so you can access your X5 M remotely on your smartphone or at home through Amazon Alexa or Echo.

The family-friendly X5 M comes with a host of standard safety and driver-assist features. Key features include multiple air bags throughout the cabin, adaptive LED headlights and taillights, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view camera. You also get dynamic cruise control, park assist, rear parking sensors, and a lane-mitigation system.
